2026 Head Football Coaching Changes |
|
Bullock County - Jeremy Vines leaves behind a lot of success at Bullock County after only three seasons leading the program to new heights. He will be moving north to take over the reins at Hueytown High School in 2026. 2026 Season - Clayton Harris Jr. will get his first shot as a head coach in 2026 at Bullock County. He will have big shoes to fill following in the footsteps of Coach Vines. Danville - Andro Williams leaves Danville after five seasons with a record of 16-35. The Hawks will be in search of only the eighth coach since the school began playing varsity football in 1976. The Hawks' last winning season came in 2009 and they have just four playoff appearances since 2000. 2026 Season - Blake Beam's first head-coaching job will be leading the Danville Hawks in 2026. He was most recently an assistant coach and offensive coordinator at Fayette County High School. Before that he had stops at Arab, Boaz and Helena. East Lawrence - Mac Hampton leaves East Lawrence after three disappointing seasons leading the football program. The Eagles will now be in search of their eighth head coach in the past dozen seasons. 2026 Season - Vacant Elkmont - Joel Schrenk leaves the Elkmont Red Devils after two seasons. He was not able to turn the football fortunes around in those two seasons going just 3-17. It seems Coach Schrenk is retiring according to sources. He has been a head coach fourteen seasons in Alabama with an overall record of 63-83 at four different schools. Now the Red Devils will be in search of the fifth head coach in only seven seasons. Elkmont has not won more than four games in any season since 2014 under Coach Sean Holt. That was also the last season they qualified for the playoffs. 2026 Season - Will Furlong arrives at Elkmont after spending the last five seasons as the offensive coordinator at Athens. Furlong is a former North Alabama football player and also played at Florida State. His other coaching stops include assistant coaching duties at Point University, the University of West Alabama and Tuscaloosa County High. Etowah - Scott Peavey exits Etowah after two seasons to accept the head coaching job at New Hope. Peavey has been a head coach for thirteen seasons with a record of 73-70 at Walter Wellborn, Ashville and Madison County. 2026 Season - Davin Hawkins is a 2010 graduate of the school, and many believe the hire will lead to a resurgence in the football program at Etowah. Hawkins comes back to Etowah from Hutchinson Community College in Kansas where he was the defensive back and strength and conditioning coach. Geneva - Jamel Harris leaves Geneva after three seasons with a 4-36 record. The Panthers have struggled over the past couple of decades to produce a consistent winner on the football field. Just one win over the past two seasons was not enough for Coach Harris to retain his position at Geneva. Since Mike McCombs left following the 2006 football season the Panthers have won one playoff game and enjoyed just six winning seasons. 2026 Season - Donnie Smith will lead the Panthers of Geneva in 2026 as they try to rebuild the football program there. Smith has been around the Dothan area for some time having served as a head coach at Headland and Daleville previously. Glencoe - Bayley Blanchard leaves Glencoe after one season with a 7-4 record. He will take over the reins at Cherokee County for the 2026 football season. Glencoe will once again be in search of a leader on the football field next season. 2026 Season - B.J. Brooks arrives back at the school he graduated from in Glencoe. Brooks spent the last three seasons as the head coach at Sardis where his teams finished a combined 10-20. He has made stops at Hoover, Cherokee County, Gadsden City, Etowah and Oneonta along his assistant coaching journey to get to Glencoe. Hale County - Ryan Locke exits Hale County after four seasons with a record of 21-21 including a couple of playoff appearances. 2026 Season - Rodney Bivens Jr. Jackson - Cody Flournoy leaves Jackson after seven very successful seasons leading the Aggies. His last two teams walked away with state championship trophies. His record during the seven seasons leading the program stands at 69-21 and 16-5 in the playoffs. He will now take his talents to Opelika hoping to bring a championship to that school very soon. 2026 Season - Ryan Little has been selected to follow in the footsteps of Coach Flournoy which may prove to be tougher than imagined. Gone are most of the star players but make no mistake the Aggies will still be a team to be reckoned with in 2026. Little spent the past few seasons on the staff at Jackson and has previously been the head coach at Fruitdale and Chickasaw. Munford - Michael Easley stepped down as the head football coach at Munford in December. His record over the seven seasons he spent leading the program produced a 25-46 record with just a single playoff appearance. Only one of his teams won more games than they lost. The Lions have not won a playoff game since 2015 when they finished 10-4 with a loss in the third round. 2026 Season - Darrell Smith is a former Lions all-state player and has been hired to take over the head coaching job at Munford. The Lions have suffered through three straight losing seasons but hopes are high of a quick turnaround at the school. New Hope - Michael Harper resigned after only two seasons at New Hope with a record of 5-15. He cited family reasons for the resignation in January. 2026 Season - Scott Peavey resigned at Etowah to take the head coaching job at New Hope in March. A veteran of thirteen seasons as a head coach, Peavey will be working to improve the football fortunes at his new home. Over the course of his career his teams at Walter Wellborn, Ashville, Madison County and Etowah have produced a record of 73-70. Oneonta - Phil Phillips exits Oneonta after eight seasons. His teams found success the first six seasons but failed to qualify for the playoffs the last two years. In 2021 the Redskins reached the 4A state championship game before falling to Vigor 52-14. Oneonta has long been one of the best football programs in the state amassing 733 wins which ranks second in the state all time. They have also won four playoff state championships. Coach Phillips' 63 wins rank fourth at Oneonta. 2026 Season - Jake Helveston spent the last two seasons as the defensive coordinator at Clay-Chalkville where he put together one of the most impressive defensive units in the state in 2025. Oneonta will be his first head coaching job. Prior to arriving at Clay-Chalkville he spent time at Mortimer Jordan and Thompson as an assistant coach. Opp - Ed Rigby resigned his position as the head football coach at Opp in December to accept the head coaching job at Pike County. Rigby spent the last two seasons leading the Bobcats to a combined 16-6 record. The Bobcats will be in search of their fifth head coach in the past seven years. 2026 Season - Les Sanders will be up next at Opp as the head football coach following a long search for the right hire. Over his 13 years of coaching, Sanders has compiled a record of 80-62 at Luverne and Geneva. He has served as an assistant at Opp the past few years. Pike County - Mark Hurt leaves Pike County after four seasons with a respectable 21-19 record. His tenure started out with an 8-4 season and the Bulldogs making the third round of the playoffs before falling to Mobile Christian. A couple of 4-5 seasons followed with a break even 5-5 this past year. It's been twenty years since the Bulldogs won three state championships in four years under Coach Wayne Grant. Since then Pike County has been a regular participant in the playoffs but have failed to get back those glory days. 2026 Season - Ed Rigby coaching career began in Louisiana, where he served as an assistant coach at Independence High, Northwest Rankin High and Mendenhall High. He then moved on to become the head coach at Albany High School, where he led the team to a school record for wins in a season and a playoff berth. Rigby landed in Alabama in 2013 at Elba where his 2015 squad won a state championship. Other stops included Eufaula, Pike Road, Luverne and Elba the past two seasons. Talladega - Damien Dorsey left Talladega for greener pastures during the off season. His next stop will be at Anniston, a school with a much longer tradition of winning football games. 2026 Season - Bennett Webb II Weaver - Ken Cofer was not able to complete the 2025 football season as the head coach at Weaver. After three games Michael Spurling stepped in as the interim head coach to finish the season for the Bearcats. Weaver has struggled recently to field a consistent winner on the football field. Their last winning season was under Coach Daryl Hamby in 2018 when they finished 7-4. Since then the Wildcats have not won a playoff game and will be looking for their fifth different head coach. 2026 Season - Logan Brooks will be the next head football coach at Weaver for the 2026 season. He most recently served as the Offensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach at Excel High School. Brooks was also previously at Escambia County as an assistant. Wilcox Central - Brandon Cheatham exits Camden with a 3-37 record following three seasons leading the Jaguars. His last year produced an 0-10 record and set a school record by allowing 494 points on defense. Over the past thirty years the Jaguars have gone through a dozen different head coaches trying to find that perfect fit to lead them to a winning season. The last time they won more games than they lost in a season was 2001 under the direction of head coach John Moton. They have not won more than three games in any season since 2010. 2026 Season - Melvin Pete Jr. is a veteran head football coach with sixteen years of experience leading a team. His overall record is 103-74 at four different schools across the state. | |
